Evaluate your hands. Yes, your mother or spouse might think you beautiful hands, but that doesn't mean the world does.
Most hand model agencies look for specific features in hands. An
even skin tone and complexion, even and well maintained nails, straight
fingers and neat cuticles are always best.
Birthmarks, freckles, moles, scars, crooked fingers, and irregularly shaped nails will severely limit your progress.
Take care of your hands and nails. Just because your hands seem
healthy, doesn't mean they will stay that way forever. Visit a
manicurist regularly, maintain a proper diet as well as drink lots of
water to help skin tone. Take proper vitamins to help nails look
beautiful, strong, and healthy. Moisturize your hands on a regular
basis. Try to avoid scratching, burning, or creating any marks on your
hands.
Create a profile and portfolio. You should start off my
taking your own photographs. A high-end digital camera will work just
as well as a professional photographer without the costs.
Start off with normal, simple, and clear poses. Take a look at
magazine photos to get an idea of the type of poses you want to make.
Include a straight on shot of the back of your hands and the palms of
your hands. As well as at least one snap shot of your face. (Yes, they
might want to show your face as well!).
The next step would be to contact small and larger modeling
agencies. You should be honest and up-front with the agencies and
express your goals to become a hand model. Set up an interview and
bring your portfolio with you. Be persistent and keep reaching for a
call back.
Eventually, you will get a call back for an interview. Make sure you
are dressed professionally and that your hands look amazing! Good luck!
